Field Director

Location: Miami, FL
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Field Director will be a critical leader in this transformative phase of our work. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in community spaces, brings both strategic vision and deep organizing experience, and is ready to help architect a powerful grassroots infrastructure.

We are seeking a Field Director who can build and run effective, member-driven campaigns, while also serving as a teacher and systems-builder—someone who can help our team grow, deepen our political strategy, and develop the internal structures needed for long-term sustainability.

The Field Director will manage our organizing staff, lead our field and base-building strategies, and play a central role in launching and evaluating our campaigns. They will also help design and implement systems for leadership development, campaign planning, data tracking, and organizational learning—ensuring that our growth is both deep and scalable.

This is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to shape a rising movement for Black liberation and political power. If you're ready to lead with purpose, teach with humility, and organize with vision, we want to build with you.

Key Responsibilities

    • Design and implement bold, community-rooted field strategies that reflect The Black Collective’s mission and strategic framework.

    • Lead the execution of the organization’s first member-led issue-based campaign, translating base input into clear goals, timelines, and tactics.

    • Support members in building campaign skills including base outreach, power mapping, messaging, and direct action.

    • Grow and deepen a diverse base of Black community members through canvassing, one-on-ones, events, and membership recruitment strategies.

    • Manage and refine the member leadership ladder, guiding members through political education, skill-building, and opportunities for public leadership.

    • Coordinate monthly “Rooted in Power” orientations and quarterly political education events with a cultural and organizing lens.

    • Supervise the organizing team through regular check-ins, field support, coaching, and clear accountability structures.

    • Create and sustain a culture of collaboration, political rigor, cultural relevance, and personal development across the organizing staff.

    • Mentor new and existing staff to ensure effective field operations, growth as organizers, and alignment with TBC’s vision.

    • Develop and implement internal systems for data tracking, campaign evaluation, membership engagement, and reporting.

    • Contribute to building sustainable organizational structures, including onboarding protocols, membership databases, and evaluation tools.

    • Partner with the Executive Director and senior staff to assess long-term field capacity needs and shape internal strategy.

    • Work with the Executive Director to build and launch our new electoral engagement strategy.

    • Represent TBC in coalitions and campaign alliances, contributing a values-based, power-building lens.

    • Assist in the development of partnerships that grow TBC’s reach and build a resilient, political Black community infrastructure.

Qualities & Qualifications

We are looking for someone who brings both technical organizing skill and visionary leadership—someone who can build systems, develop people, and ignite collective power. The ideal candidate will:

  • Proven experience designing and leading grassroots issues or electoral campaigns that engage and activate base members.

  • Comfortable creating internal processes and infrastructure that help an organization scale sustainably and equitably.

  • Deep understanding of the structural conditions facing Black communities and a commitment to advancing self-determination and community resilience.

  • Able to manage, mentor, and inspire organizing staff with compassion, clarity, and accountability.

    • Comfortable leading in a dynamic, evolving environment where creativity, initiative, and strategy are equally valued.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including workshop facilitation, campaign messaging, and reporting.

  • Ideally grounded in South Florida with knowledge of local dynamics—or able to quickly build authentic relationships and understanding.

Work Expectations

  • 40+ hours/week, including evenings and weekends during key campaign periods.

  • Regular in-person participation in team meetings and community events.

  • Occasional overnight travel for training and convenings.

About The Black Collective

We are The Black Collective, an unapologetic, visionary movement rooted in the experiences of the African Diaspora and committed to building Black political and economic power in South Florida and beyond. Our mission is to organize Black communities around a shared agenda that elevates political consciousness, strengthens community resilience, and builds the infrastructure for lasting transformation.

We are entering a powerful new phase. For the first time in our history, we are launching a member-led issue-based campaign, chosen and shaped by our base. We are also laying the foundation for a new model of Black political organizing, one that is locally rooted, culturally relevant, and strategically bold.

Our work is grounded in a deep understanding of the problem we aim to solve: Black communities are being systematically denied the ability to build and live in resilient communities. From economic instability to environmental threats, from housing insecurity to state violence, we are facing both chronic stressors and acute shocks that deepen marginalization and displacement. But we are not passive in the face of these conditions—we are organizing to change them.

Through base-building, political education, cultural organizing, and leadership development, we are building a movement that is equipped to meet this moment and shape the future.
