Revolutionary Organizing School

The Revolutionary Organizing School (ROS) is committed to Black liberation and frontline leadership by elevating the political consciousness and amplifying the economic power of Black communities. ROS is an 8-week fellowship, where we center political education, developing core competencies and nurturing soft and hard skills, and community service. Fellows will also lead a team service project.

The disenfranchisement Black communities is encouraged by the popular narrative that politics is only for some to worry about. Even within the social justice movement, the agency and involvement of the people has been sidelined by the business of doing politics on their behalf. We know that the structural changes needed to protect our communities can only be made once the people themselves understand the source of their conditions and grow to see themselves as agents of change.

Why We Do What We Do

Through the 8 weeks, which will be held from September to November, we will recruit 10-15 fellows. Fellows commit to participate 20 hours a week. The Black Collective and Black Men Build will develop the program focused on core competencies and a political education curriculum grounded in our fight for liberation, our worth and Black love, our triumphs and our vision.

how We Do What We Do

programming

  • Weekly political education session ranging from topics like the trans-atlantic slave trade, historical materialism and Black feminism.

  • Skills training where fellows are taught the foundational principles of organizing (how to have a 1-on-1, organizing circles, asset and power mapping) and tools to grow their capacity in planning community events. Fellows will then take these skills learned and apply them in the field through canvassing and direct engagement with the community.

  • The Fellows conduct day of service, where we will partner with service organizations in our community to ground our fellows in the concept of self-determination and time for the fellows to plan their team service project.

the outcome

Our goal with the Revolutionary Organizing School is to increase the number of people involved in movement spaces throughout South Florida. We are committed to building the soft and hard skills and core competencies of grassroots organizers. We are committed to building a space where fellows learn about political processes and systems, but also learning how to move beyond those systems towards self-determination and defining alternative models of self-sufficiency not only for themselves, but our communities. We want to take control of our story, tell it, shape it while creating our shared community agenda using collective action and building collective power.

The Revolutionary Organizing School is more than a cohort of individuals interested in community activism, it is a hub for movement in South Florida. With this hub, we seek to provide a space that looks and feels like Black liberation. We are building a home for members of our community to sharpen their desire for change and providing the necessary tools to make that change.
